The Delta Film Society serves as a bridge connecting the artistic sensibilities of the Thanjavur region with the intricacies of world cinema. Launched in August 2025, this film movement is a new platform for both commercial and parallel cinema. This film movement was founded by Thiru. K Moorthykannan, a film director and visionary who has directed socially responsible films. Our objective is to bring good films to the people, create awareness about world-class cinematic art among the youth of the Delta region, and sow the seeds of social change through films. “Cinema is not just an entertainment; it is a powerful weapon.” We have created this organisation to handle this weapon effectively and to understand the aesthetic nuances of world cinema.

Memberships

We offer three membership plans with varying benefits, at minimum subscription amounts of ₹499, ₹999, and ₹3,000 respectively.

Our Primary Activities

World Cinema Screenings

We screen not only films in our mother tongue but also the best classic and alternative films from around the world. Instead of simply watching films, we screen world-class movies and then conduct a detailed discussion. By discussing the technical aspects and political themes, plot, cinematography, and the hidden symbols within the films, we take cinematic appreciation to the next level.

Creative and Technical Training

Students work closely with industry mentors, develop original content, and collaborate on short films and creative projects that build confidence and portfolio-ready skills. We focus on nurturing storytelling abilities while strengthening technical foundations in camera operation, lighting, sound, and post-production. In addition, we provide career guidance, networking opportunities with professionals from the film and media industry.

Short Film Festivals

Every year, we organise short film competitions and festivals, providing awards and platforms for talented filmmakers. This ensures the emergence of a new generation of directors. Through jury evaluations, audience interactions, and networking sessions, participants build meaningful connections within the film community. Award winners receive certificates, trophies, and mentorship opportunities that help guide their next steps in cinema.

Fieldwork and Research

Filmmaking is not just about the camera; it is connected to society. Therefore, we undertake various documentary projects and fieldwork to document local stories and identify local artists. We believe cinema has the power to inspire change. By combining artistic expression with social responsibility, we strive to create films that reflect authentic experiences while empowering emerging filmmakers to become socially conscious storytellers.

Delta Cinema Monthly Magazine Publication

An exclusive magazine/e-magazine is being published by our organisation, featuring insightful articles, interviews, and world cinema news. It serves as a bridge to enhance cinematic knowledge among readers. Our e-magazine is accessible to a wide audience, encouraging dialogue, critical thinking, and cultural exchange within the film community. By blending education, the publication supports our larger mission of nurturing students.

Documentary Projects

We are undertaking projects to record the unique arts, lifestyle, language, and culture of the Delta districts through documentary films. These documentary initiatives aim to preserve the rich heritage of the Delta region while creating an authentic visual archive for future generations. By capturing traditional art forms, everyday life, indigenous languages, and cultural practices, we seek to highlight the identity and diversity of these communities.
